“What do you do?”
You surely answer this every now and then. But can you really sum up what you do while your elevator ride lasts? Well, that means 30 to 60 seconds to tell your story. Now, if you want the conversation to carry on even afterwards, then what you say inside the elevator is critical. That, what you say is an elevator pitch!
An elevator pitch is a short speech. The term itself comes from a scenario. One day you accidently meet someone in the elevator with whom you desperately wanted to meet for quite some time. He is there in front of you while the elevator goes to his 10th floor office. This is your golden opportunity to impress! You make the most of it in 60 seconds and he makes more time for you in his office. This is from where the term elevator pitch comes.
This small encounter doesn’t happen daily. If you have not planned it shrewdly, then it is mostly accidental. So be ready with your elevator pitch all the time.
